The Creative Spark

Fostering a Creative Life.

What is Creativity?

There is something undeniably powerful about the act of creation. Creation breathes life into us, quite literally. We often view creativity as something external to ourselves: a talent reserved for artists, writers, or musicians. But that’s a myth (see Rubin).

Creativity is not a rare ability. It is also not difficult to access; it is innate to our nature. Creative energy is a means of survival. Daily, we are called to foster solutions to problems, discover ways around the initial path, and brainstorm alternative means to getting what we desire (Kottler). We are all creators, and as children, we naturally view life through a creative lens in our play.

Play is how we imagine and express our inner worlds. It’s how we engage in the creative act. When we create, we don’t just produce—we bring energy into the world.

The Creative Spark: A Return to Ourselves

Creation requires presence through a return to ourselves. It demands that we show up fully, aware of both our intention and the mystery of what wants to emerge through us. This is why creation feels sacred, because it is.

As time goes on, and responsibilities increase, the demand for security, financial stability, and safety rises, and we start to distance our connection to our creative spark: the creative, playful spirit that's always been part of who we are.
